NEOGEN Violet Red Bile Glucose Agar (ISO), 500 g
Violet Red Bile Glucose Agar is used for the enumeration of Enterobacteriaceae in foods and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.Formulated according to ISO 21528:2017 (all parts), VRBGA is a modification of Violet Red Bile Lactose Agar (NCM0089) introduced by Mossel in 1978. VRBA contains lactose which is fermented by members of the coli/ aerogenes group, this medium gives a ‘coliform’ count. The VRBGA formula modification replaces lactose with glucose. Glucose is fermented by all members of the Enterobacteriaceae thus gives a presumptive Enterobacteriaceae count. Bile salts and crystal violet are used to inhibit Gram positive and non-enteric organisms. Mueller Hinton Agar II is used in antimicrobial susceptibility testing by the disk diffusion method. This formula conforms to Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute (CLSI), formerly National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS).Mueller Hinton Agar II is based on the formula recommended by Mueller and Hinton for the primary isolation of Neisseria species. Mueller and Hinton selected pea meal extract agar as a simple transparent medium containing heat stable ingredients. During their modification, starch replaced the growth-promoting properties of pea extract, acting as a “protective colloid” against toxic substances. EX-CELL 420 is a complete medium developed and optimized for the serum-free growth of Sf9 and Sf21 insect cell lines. Cells can be subcultured directly into EX-CELL 420 from serum-free or seum-supplemented media without adaptation. Cultures in EX-CELL 420 routinely reach cell densities greater than 1 × 107 cells/mL with greater than 95% viability. Suspension cultures can be maintained, without refeeding, for more than 10 days. Sf9 and Sf21 cells have been carried for more than 20 passages in EX-CELL 420 with no loss of viability. Protein expression and virus production are improved over serum-containing media.
